External Flash Drives
One of the most perfect aspects of flash drives is that they are external. External flash drives connect to the computer USB port. Most computers today even come with several USB drives in the front. A USB port in the front makes connecting the external flash drives a piece of cake. All you have to do is make sure you put the flash drive in correctly. After a few tries, connecting the external flash drive will become second nature. If you are unlucky enough to have USB ports only in the back, you should add a small USB port so you can connect your external flash drive into the port rather than having to move your computer to put it into the back. That is a real pain and moving a running computer isn’t a good idea.
If you have ever tried to add memory or an internal drive, you already know that this process isn’t for amateurs. Sometimes you will invalidate your warranty if you open the CPU. Many people snubbed this process and bought external drives. They were large but useful. The main problem is that they weren’t portable. In come the external flash drives to the rescue. They are easy to connect and completely portable. Problem solved.
Students, both high school and college, love the external flash drives. They can do some of their work in the classroom, some more in the library, and even more in the dorm room. Then on those suitcase weekends, students load up their flash drives and take them home to do even more work. Often if a presentation is involved, the flash drive is the device used to connect to the professor’s equipment. Obviously, students need to guard their external flash drives with their lives.
Much time high school students wait to the last minute to finish projects and term papers. Wow! What a surprise. Inevitably the printer breaks right at the crucial moment. At these horrifying times, the external flash drives come to the rescue. The student saves the project or term paper on the external flash drive, takes it to school, and finds a working printer to finish the work. Mission accomplished.
Teachers or professors also love the external flash drives. Many educators keep an entire semester of class work on their external flash drive. They must make sure to either password protect their flash drive or keep it locked in a safe place. If a student got his hands on the external flash drive, cheating becomes the rule of the day.
External flash drives are one of the most useful computer tool invented in the last few years. Information that is crucial must be saved on the computer and then saved again on the external flash drive. What did we ever do without them?
